|Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults (RCIA)
The RCIA is a process of adult initiation into full communion with the Catholic Church. Beginning in September and culminating at the Easter Vigil, candidates for entry into the Catholic Church go through instruction and preparation that serves to educate them about the Catholic faith. This initiation takes place through four phases: a period of Inquiry which introduces the candidates to the basics of the Catholic faith; a period of Catechumenate, which involves more intense study of the sacraments and sacramental nature of the Church; a period of Enlightenment which involves the last weeks of prayer and study in preparation for reception into the Church; and a period of Mystagogy which focuses on the ongoing conversion that constitutes the heart of Catholic living.
